CBT Q & A
WHAT IS THE COMMITTEE FOR A BETTER TOMORROW (CBT)?
The Committee for a Better Tomorrow (CBT) is a registered bipartisan political action trust, established by the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association. CBT supports candidates in statewide elections who believe in the civil justice system, trial by jury and tort recovery.
WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF GIVING?
The greatest benefit is seeing the positive legislative effects that can occur as a result of electing candidates who believe in the civil justice system.
WHAT WILL THE MONEY BE USED FOR?
Your contribution is put to work electing candidates to office who share your interests. Your contribution is pooled with others so that it can be used where it is most effective to elect pro-civil justice candidates.
TO WHOM ARE POLITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS MADE?
Contributions are made to candidates who are approved by the CBT Trustees. CBT Trustees are elected by the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association.
WHY DON'T PTLA MEMBERSHIP DUES COVER THIS?
PTLA membership dues support the costs of lobbying in a regular legislative year. CBT Pac funds cannot be used for lobbying. They are used in support of candidates who share our values.
HOW CAN I CONTRIBUTE?
CBT accepts contributions only from individuals, sole proprietorships, limited liability companies (L.L.C. - must be treated as a partnership for federal tax purposes) or partnerships (only partners may contribute from a partnership account). Contributions from professional corporations (P.C.) are prohibited by state and federal election laws.
You may use a personal check, partnership check, or personal credit card. Only partners may contribute from a partnership account.
Contributions to CBT are not tax deductible.
