Your dues payment will not be deductible as a charitable contribution but will, in general, be deductible for most members as a business expense. However, dues may be deductible as ordinary and necessary business expenses subject to restrictions imposed as a result of PTLA’s lobbying activities as defined by the Revenue Reconciliation Act of 1993. PTLA estimates that the nondeductible portion of your annual dues – the portion that is allocable to lobbying – is 0%.

Civil Justice Fund (CJF), formed in 2005, allows PTLA to take a pro-active role in the fight against tort reform and preserve the right to justice and stay ahead of the curve in difficult legislative battles. The money is used for contract lobbyists, political strategists and publicists, sponsoring media events, legislative letter writing campaigns, drafting pro-consumer legislation, educating the public and the press, and related administrative costs, to prevent attacks on consumer rights. Corporate checks and credit card contributions are accepted. Note: No part of your contribution to CJF is tax deductible.
